Token metrics definitions
Exactly how price, market cap, liquidity, volume, holders, curve progress and candles are calculated.
These are the definitions Staple uses everywhere a coin's numbers appear, word for word the same as the info buttons next to each figure. Every number is computed from what the chain (or the simulated network) recorded; a number that cannot be computed is shown as unavailable, never as zero.
Units
Coins are priced in SOL. On the simulated network amounts say sim SOL, on devnet and local test networks test SOL, and only mainnet amounts say SOL. Dollar values appear only on mainnet, next to SOL figures, when a live SOL to US dollar price is available from Jupiter's price service; the source and its time are shown with them. Commodity prices are shown in their own units, such as US dollars per troy ounce.
Price and value
- Price
- SOL per token, from the pool's price: the bonding curve before graduation, the DAMM v2 pool after. When no pool price has been read yet, the latest trade price is shown and labelled.Very small prices are written with a subscript count of zeros, for example 0.0₇3155, and never in scientific notation.
- Market cap (fully diluted)
- Market cap (fully diluted): price x the live mint supply.Every coin's whole supply exists from launch, so fully diluted is the only market cap Staple shows.
- Liquidity
- SOL in the bonding curve before graduation; the pool's SOL reserve after.
- Trade price
- SOL paid or received per token in one trade, excluding the trading fee.
Trading activity
- 24h volume
- SOL traded in the last 24 hours, from swaps Staple has read from the chain. Buys count what was paid including the fee, sells what was received plus the fee.
- 24h change
- The price after the latest trade compared with the price after the last trade at or before 24 hours ago. Not shown until the coin has a trade that old.
- Trending
- Recent activity: each trade in the last 6 hours adds 1 plus the SOL it traded, and a trade's weight halves every hour.
Holders and curve progress
- Holders
- Token accounts holding the coin, not counting the pool's own vaults or locked vesting. Counted from the chain every few minutes; the time of the count is shown.
- Curve progress
- SOL in the curve divided by the SOL needed to graduate. It reaches 100% when the coin graduates. See Graduation.
Charts
- Candles
- Built from the pool's price after each trade. A period with no trade has no candle; nothing is filled in.
- Coin and market together
- A coin's chart can show its market's price as a second line, so you can follow your coin and its market together. Each line has its own labelled axis and unit.
Portfolio figures
- Value
- Balance x pool price. An estimate: selling moves the price and pays the trading fee.
- Cost basis
- Shown only when every trade of this wallet in this coin has been read and the trades add up to the balance on chain.
