Pairing and commodity markets
What it means to pair a coin with gold or eggs, where the pairing shows, and the 20 markets to choose from.
What pairing means
Every coin on Staple is paired with one of 20 commodity markets. When you launch a coin you pick its market: gold, crude oil, coffee, eggs and so on. That market becomes part of the coin's identity. Its latest price, source and date sit right next to the coin wherever the coin appears, and the coin is listed on that market's page.
It gives every coin a theme people read at a glance and a real-world market to follow alongside it. Gold coins, oil coins, egg coins: each market gathers its own community of coins.
Where the pairing shows
- On the coin's page. The market's name, icon and latest price next to the coin's own price, with the price's source and date.
- On the chart. The coin's price and its market's price on one chart, each with its own labelled axis, so you can follow your coin and its market together.
- On the market pages. Every one of the 20 markets has a page with its price and every coin paired with it.
- In Explore. Filter coins by market to find every gold coin, every coffee coin, every eggs coin.
Where the pairing is recorded
The pairing is chosen once, at launch, and recorded in three places:
- in the coin's metadata, as the attribute
Staple marketwith the market's id; - on Solana, as a memo in the launch transaction, such as
staple:v1:coffee; - in Staple's own records, which list the coin under its market.
The 20 markets
Twenty markets in six groups. Each has its own source and update schedule: some are live while their exchange is open, some publish once a day or once a month. Market data sources lists them all.
